Last week, SCC Specialist Counsel Jake Lowther joined the arbitration community in Tallinn for Tallinn Arbitration Day 2026 and a busy programme of discussions around international arbitration.
The day began with ๐ช๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ ๐ ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ฝ ๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐ ๐๐ผ-๐๐ผ: ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ด๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ถ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐โ๐ ๐ง๐ผ๐ผ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ, an SCC-SAA breakfast with Triinu Hiob, Albertas ล ekลกtelo, and Eveli Lume. Drawing on the SCCโs recent Practice Note on challenges to arbitrators, the conversation explored conflicts of interest, disclosure and repeat appointments, as well as issue conflicts, including in the ISDS context.
The visit also reflected the strong links between the SCC and the Baltic region. ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ด๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ผ๐น๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ ๐๐๐๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐ฎ, ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐ฎ, with the number of cases more than doubling in the second half of the period.
Thank you to Swedish Arbitration Association for co-organising the breakfast and Motiekโฆ
