Choosing the right arbitrator is one of the most consequential decisions in any arbitration. The SCC's list procedure gives parties a structured way to take part in that decision, supporting an efficient appointment process and confidence in the composition of the Arbitral Tribunal.
Rather than a direct Board appointment, the SCC shares a shortlist of candidates, the parties indicate their preferences, and the SCC appoints on that basis.
Candidates are assessed against criteria including case-specific expertise, prior arbitral experience, the seat, governing law and language of proceedings, and diversity considerations.
