This publication, authored by SCC Specialist Counsel Jake Lowther and former SCC Intern Yasmine Brunstorp, examines 1,107 arbitrator appointments across 854 registered cases and 436 individual arbitrators over the five-year period from 2020 to 2024, tracking progress on gender, nationality, repeat appointments and age. It also draws direct comparisons with our earlier report covering the period 2015 to 2019.

โข The proportion of female arbitrator appointments rose from 20 per cent (2015-2019) to 34 per cent (2020-2024).
โข The SCC has achieved gender parity in its own appointments, with 51 per cent of SCC-appointed arbitrators being women.
โข The average gender fee gap in Standard Arbitrations narrowed markedly, from approximately 20 per cent to approximately 4 per cent, while in Expedited Arbitrations women commanded both a higher median and a higher average fee than men.
