Last week, the SCC Arbitration Institute co-hosted a breakfast seminar in Krakรณw alongside Motieka & Audzeviฤius, Queritius, and the Swedish Arbitration Association (SAA), in connection with the Ciarb European Branch Conference. The event was fully booked, a clear signal of the genuine appetite for substantive dialogue in the region.
The panel explored whether parties are becoming more deliberate when negotiating their seat of arbitration, and what the SCC's own data actually shows. The findings challenge some widely held assumptions: we are not seeing an increase in CEE-seated SCC cases. What we are seeing is a growing trend of Stockholm being chosen as a neutral seat in SCC arbitrations with no Swedish or Stockholm connection whatsoever, beyond the choice of the SCC itself.
