This Sunday marks International Women's Day, and we are proud to share a milestone worth celebrating. Women arbitrator appointments in SCC cases have increased by 70% in 2020-2024 compared to 2015โ€“2019, a trajectory that reflects the genuine progress being made across international arbitration. Of all 1,107 appointments covered by the report, 33% were women and 67% were men. Where the SCC itself made the appointment, the picture is even stronger: 51% of arbitrators appointed by the SCC Board were women, and 49% were men. Women appointed as sole arbitrator or chairperson rose from 29% (2015โ€“2019) to 44% (2020โ€“2024). Women appointed as co-arbitrators increased from 14% to 32% over the same period.   Progress is not accidental, it is the result of consistent commitment. These figures demonstrate what is possible when institutions take gender diversity seriously.
